Societa di Polizzi Generosa

Founded in 1900 by several immigrants from Polizzi Generosa. Polizzi Generosa is a town located in the mountains of Sicily, within the province of Palermo. (Polzzi is home and host to many famous persons in the United States and World-Wide.) Soon, a group of fifeteen men became a society of one hundred, Today we are sixty members strong and growing each week. 

Our goal is to promote the Italian culture throughout the New York area. We have joined and create associations with several other social clubs throughout the area who are aimed at the same goal. Our method is by introducing the youth to events throughout the year and the holiday season.

In 1941 the club owned a building at 900 Flushing Avenue. There were more than 500 members including the Mayor of New York, Fiorello La Guardia. The annual dinner was at the Hoter Pierre. The men had to wear Tuxedoes and all the women with white gloves. This was the biggest dinner dance in the city of New York at the time. The club helped the polizzani immigrants to find work, lent money for sickness and funerals. The annual picnic was done at the Mufara park and more then 300 person attended every years
